Faith Formation
Welcome to the religious education program at St. Hedwig’s Parish 2024-25.
The information within this website is designed to help parents and guardians to be informed participants in their child’s faith formation process. Parents are the primary educators of their children. Our job is to employ tools and resources that we have available to us and help that education process along.
The goal of participation in this program is to prepare oneself, as practicing Catholics, to receive the sacraments. Being Catholic is a lifelong endeavor and involves much more than receiving a select number of sacraments. It is a process that continues through one’s life and ideally should reflect in one’s daily life. Part of this process involves attending Mass weekly and, not only is this opportunity to continue to receive the sacrament of Eucharist, it is also a requirement of the Ten Commandments.
Faith Formation begins and continues at home. It is a privilege to have your children with us in our program but we only have them for one hour a week and, therefore, it is incumbent upon you as parents to reinforce what is learned and to set an example.
We can tell your children how much Jesus loves them, how privileged they are to be children of God, and how many blessings they receive when they attend Mass and receive the sacraments but they can only experience it through participation.
PHILOSOPHY
St. Hedwig’s Religious Education seeks to provide a program that fosters the spiritual development of each child. We try to deepen the awareness of God’s presence in the lives of the children so that they may respond to this presence in prayer and service to others. We accept God as the beginning and end of life, Christ the center of our life, and the gospel as the source guiding our lives through the Holy Spirit. Parents and teachers alike have a mandate from God to work together to provide the knowledge of our faith.
